Information:
At approximately 11:02pm, Saturday, September 27th, 2014, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s E911 Communications Center received a medical call concerning a female victim on Broadway St. in the City of Berlin. City of Berlin Police Officers arrived a short time later, in the 200 block of Broadway St., to find an adult female lying upon the sidewalk. The female had sustained gunshot wounds. Officers then entered an apartment at that same location to find an adult male also with gunshot wounds. Berlin EMS responded to the scene and eventually both victims were pronounced deceased by the Green Lake County Coroner. Based upon evidence a crime scene and perimeter was established.

The deceased victims have been identified as:

Melissa J. Tuinstra, 28 year old female. Resident of Berlin

Justin M. Daniels, 28 year old male. Resident of Berlin

The families of the deceased victims involved have been notified.

This incident is believed to be a double homicide. The public is not considered to be in danger, and the “person of interest” is currently being questioned at this time, as well as several search warrants being executed.

The investigation into this incident is being conducted by the City of Berlin Police and assisted by the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigations State Crime Lab, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Green Lake County Coroner.

Other agencies assisting with this case include the Berlin EMS, Berlin Fire and Emergency Management, Green Lake County District Attorney, Waushara Co. Sheriff’s Office, Ripon Police Department, and Marquette Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Information:
At approximately 11:02pm, Saturday, September 28th, 2014, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s E911 Communications Center received a medical call concerning a female victim on Broadway St. in the City of Berlin. City of Berlin Police arrived a short time later, in the 100 block of Broadway St., to find an adult female laying upon the sidewalk. The female had sustained gunshot wounds. Officers then entered an apartment at that same location to find an adult male also with gunshot wounds. Berlin EMS responded to the scene and eventually both victims were pronounced deceased by the Green Lake County Coroner. Based upon evidence at the scene a crime scene and perimeter were established.

As the investigation continued, the location of an eight year old girl could not be determined. The 8 year old girl has a family relationship to the residence where this incident occurred. Based upon circumstances relating to the crime, an Amber Alert was sent out in an attempt to locate the girl with authorites believing that she may be in great danger. The Amber Alert involved attempting to locate a 2001 Dodge Stratus, Silver in color, registered to a person of interest in this investigation.

At approximately 5:53am, the Amber Alert was cancelled as the 8 year old girl, and the person of interest in the investigation, including the 2001 Dodge Stratus, had been located in a neighboring jurisdiction. The 8 year old girl is reportedly uninjured.

As of the time of this release, 7:30am, authorities are attempting to speak to the person of interest, an adult male party from the City Berlin.

This investigation is progressing rapidly. Additional information will become available. A press conference is scheduled as follows:

This incident is believed to be a double homicide. The public is not believed to be in danger. The names of the those involved are being withheld pending notice to family and until the person of interest is spoken to.

The investigation into this incident is being conducted by the City of Berlin Police, Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Green Lake County Coroner.

This incident was responded to by Berlin EMS, Berlin Fire and Emergency Management, and the Green Lake County District Attorney.
