Stolen Vehicle, Pursuit, and Crash

Information:
On Thursday, February 15, 2018, 1:56am, a Green Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Sth.23 in the Town of Brooklyn, Green Lake County. During the initial contact, the operator fled with the vehicle heading West on Sth.23. The Sheriff’s Deputy pursued the vehicle which turned north on Forest Ridge Rd., through a field, back on Sth.23, then turned off, heading north through a field and into a marsh. Speeds reached 85 mph. The suspect vehicle, a 1998 GMC Sonoma, then struck an embankment and flipped end for end in a ditch. The operator and his dog fled on foot into a marsh. A perimeter around the area was established and a dual-purpose Police dog (tracking and protection) was called from the Waupun Police Department. With a track being found, the suspect was pursued to a local excavating company where a plow truck may have been attempted to be stolen, followed by a second stolen vehicle that was successfully taken. Evidence led to a residence south of Princeton and later to a residence in Waushara County. A short time later, a suspect was taken into custody by Waushara County authorities and transferred back to the custody of the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

While a portion of this incident remains under investigation, a 40 year old male suspect from Princeton is in custody at the Green Lake County Correctional Facility for the crimes of Operate While Intoxicated 10^th Offense, Fleeing/Eluding, and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.

Citizens, Law Enforcement, and the Suspect were all uninjured during this event. Assisting agencies for this incident included the Princeton and Berlin Police Departments, also, the Waupun Police Department K-9 Unit.

No further information concerning this incident will be released until formal charging by the Green Lake County District Attorney.
