Lottery Credit Week May 11-15

PRESS RELEASE

DATE: May 7, 2015
FROM: Green Lake County Treasurer, Elizabeth Amend

May 11 – 15, 2015 Lottery Credit Week

The Green Lake County Treasurer’s office is dedicating the week of May 11th -May 15th, 2015 to verify that all Real Property Owners who were eligible, received the Lottery Credit on their 2014 tax bill. If the property owner did not receive the credit, and met the eligibility requirements, the Treasurer’s office will help complete the paperwork and file the forms with the Department of Revenue so the owner receives the late lottery credit and ensure that the credit is applied to the 2015 tax bill. Last year the average lottery credit in Green Lake County was approximately $100.00. The exact amount is based upon the school district in which your home is located.

To qualify for the lottery and gaming credit, an owner must be a Wisconsin resident, the owner of the dwelling, and use the dwelling as their primary residence as of the certification date (January 1, 2015). If temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than 6 months (hospital, vacation, incarcerated, etc), it is the home to which the owner returns. Principal dwelling means any dwelling used by the owner as his/her primary residence. A property owner may claim only one primary residence. The lottery and gaming credit cannot be claimed on business property, rental units, vacant land, garages, or other property that is not the primary residence of the owner. [sec. 79.10 (1) (dm), (9) (bm), Wis. Stats.]. A description of the lottery credit can be found on the Dept of Revenue website: www.revenue.wi.gov/faqs/slf/lottcr

To verify if you received the lottery credit please visit the Green Lake County Website www.greenlakecountywi.gov and click on Property Tax Data and GIS Maps. After a map has finished loading, type the parcel number (this can be found on the upper right hand corner of the tax bill of your home), or just the street number of the home’s address. Pressing “click to search” should bring up your individual parcel, where you can verify if you have received the 2014 credit (look at the 2014 data). If you did not receive the credit and you feel you qualify to receive it you may complete the 2014 Late Claim form.
If you find that you received the credit in error, please contact the Treasurer’s office so you can repay the credit before the Department of Revenue audit. If you were not a resident of your property on January 1 of 2014, but were as of January 1, 2015, you will qualify for the credit on your 2015 tax bill. You should complete the 2015 application to receive that credit.

The lottery credit can only be obtained by having a signed application on file. Please contact the County Treasurer’s office for any questions at 920-294-4018.
