January is Radon Action Month

Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that comes from soil and rock. It can enter your house and build up to harmful levels. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US and the leading cause among non-smokers. It doesn’t matter whether you have a new or old home; a home with a basement, crawl-space or slab; or even that your neighbor’s radon level is low, you could still have high levels of radon in your home. The only way to know is to TEST!

Please stop in to your County Health Department to pick up a short-term radon test kit. You place it in your home for 2 days and mail it to the lab. If you pick up your kit in January, the only cost to you is shipping to the lab. Beginning February 1, the health department will be charging to cover the cost of test kits, which will be $6 for short-term kits and $18 for long-term.

If you are a resident of Waushara, Green Lake, Marquette, or Portage County, bring this certificate to your Health Department during the month of January and receive a FREE radon test kit for your home!
