On Thursday, February 2, 2017, 7:19am, the Green Lake County E911 Communications Center received a report of a vehicle that had broken through the ice on the Kingston Millpond. Two subjects were reported to be standing on the roof of a mostly submerged vehicle.

The Kingston Millpond is located in southern Green Lake County approximately six miles west of the City of Markesan.
Deputy units and Emergency Services arrived on the scene in Kingston at approximately 7:29am. Observed were two individuals that had walked from the vehicle to the shore. Only two subjects were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. One male subject, age of 53 of Madison, was operating his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado truck, the other male, age 26 of Pardeeville, was a passenger when the vehicle broke through in about 5 feet of water. While one male was wet from being in the water, neither male was injured or transported for treatment as a result of this incident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the truck traveled on a recently frozen over part of the Millpond where a river channel resides. Sheriff Mark A. Podoll commented that, “While ice is never completely safe, this winter has been a challenge with a mixture of inconsistent temperatures and periodic bouts of rain making ice conditions difficult at best”.

Responding units to this incident include the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Kingston First Responders, Dalton Fire Department, Markesan Fire Department, Princeton Water Rescue, and Markesan Emergency Medical Services.
