GREEN LAKE, WISCONSIN – March 19, 2018. Sarah Guenther, Green Lake County Register of Deeds would like all citizens to be prepared when renewing your driver license or applying for a REAL ID compliance card. The current Division of Motor Vehicles letter citizens receive lists several items that must be provided, including a valid unexpired US Passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate.

Guenther said, “her top priority is serving the public and making it as easy as possible to navigate the various levels of government. The Register of Deeds office has been using blue security paper for more than 20 years. If it’s not on 8 1/2″ x 11″ blue security paper with raised seals in both bottom corners, chances are it is not a certified copy.”

It is now easier to obtain certified copies of birth certificates, regardless of where in Wisconsin you were born. “When statewide issuance of birth certificates started in January 2017, the new process allows you to walk into the Register of Deeds office in Green Lake and in 10-15 minutes, you will leave with your certificate.” Each person must fill out an application and the cost of each certified copy is $20.

For married individuals who have changed their name, and are applying for a REAL ID compliance card, you must also provide a certified copy of your marriage certificate. “For marriages performed prior to June 2015, you still need to purchase from the county where the ceremony was held. After June 2015, statewide issuance is available, as long as the wedding took place somewhere in Wisconsin.”

The same rules apply when renewing your commercial driver license (CDL).
