Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep and Unwanted Medicine Collection Program
In August 2009, over 7,500 pounds of household hazardous waste was diverted from the local landfill thanks to the hazardous waste clean sweep program. Green Lake County residents will have another opportunity August 13 & 14 to rid their homes of unwanted household hazardous waste in an environmentally safe way. All Green Lake County residents and landowners may participate. Disposal is free.
Hazardous waste items include: lawn and garden products, poisons, household cleaners, oil based paints and paint related products, rechargeable batteries, mercury thermometers, swimming pool chemicals, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, waste oil and many other items. Also collected will be unused, unwanted, expired prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines.
