On Wednesday, September 14, 2012, at 4:05pm, the Green Lake County E911 Communications Center received an emergency call transfer from Fond Du Lac County concerning a boat overturned on Big Green Lake. One or more subjects were reported to be in the water on the East end of Big Green.

At approximately 4:12pm the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office received additional information that a citizen jet ski had picked up a male party from the boat and that only one person was involved. Employee's of Shoreline Marine, Green Lake, who had been working on the water, arrived and assisted in stabilizing the scene and recovering a small sailboat from the water. At 4:51pm a Sheriff's Patrol Boat, the victim and jet ski, and the Shoreline employee's all arrived safely at Sunset Park on Cth.A.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that a 68 year old Ripon man, Ralph W. Rich, was operating a 10 foot long sailboat on the East end of Big Green Lake. A strong Northwest wind then overturned the sailboat in about 50 feet of water, one-quarter mile from shore. Rich was alone and was wearing a personal floatation device at the time of the incident. He was not injured. Rich was then assisted by a citizen riding a jet ski, Eric B. Coplitz, age 31, of Oshkosh and by Shoreline Marine of Green Lake.

Emergency responding units included the Green Lake Ambulance, Princeton Ambulance, Brooklyn First Responders, Medic1, and the City of Green Lake Police. Also, Princeton Fire/Rescue and the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office. No enforcement action will be taken concerning this incident.
